.c. darcy spencer joins us live with the breaking developments. darcy? >> reporter: jim, i just got off the phone with the d.c. police and i can confirm that an arrest has been made in this case. we're awaiting additional details. but i can tell you the suspect's name is tieran mcelraft, arrested today, just 18 years old, on burglary one. that involved burglary where an assault was involved in that. the victim just 81 years old. police returned to the scene here on mckinley street around 45 minutes ago to collect additional evidence. this crime happened somewhere between 11:45 yesterday morning and 12:30 in the afternoon. the victim, she is blind and she is hard of hearing. the suspect apparently got into her home through a broken basement window. then there was some sort of encounter between that suspect and the victim inside her home. at that point they tell us that she was punched in her head and face. now, yesterday she was found by a mailman here. and he indicated she was barely kpgs. and she was confused. right at her own doorstep. >> the nature of the crime is a heinous crime, a

. this happened near the intersection of station road and brandy wine road. police tell us the officer was en route to a call and went into the intersection and that's where he was hit. it appears that their injuries are nonlife threatening. now to a developing story. on line for you, wjla.com. police in the district arrest two teenagers after a taxi cab is found in a burning car. what are we hearing? >> this evening detectives confirmed a 17-year-old and a female from maryland were arrested and charged with felony murder. the taxi driver was shot and killed friday night. police later determined the man was shot in the head. seconds later he drove his vehicle into a fence. the car later caught fire. detectives spoke about the case a short time ago. >> we initially received some tips, and that led us to them through witness information. at this time we do believe the motive was an attempted robbery. >> police have charged 17 -year-old and the unidentified female with felony murder. the victim has not been released pending notification. >> also new tonight

. >>> thank you for joining us. i'm mike hydeck in for jc hayward today. the man police named the east coast rapist was scheduled to plead guilty in a virginia courtroom but apparently aaron thomas had a change of his mind. so what happened? let's get right to peggy fox live in manassas. what's the deal, peg? >> reporter: well, mike, aaron thomas was expected to plead guilty to two rapes and three counts of abduction with intent to defile. those charges go back to halloween night of 2009 when three teenage girls who were out trick or treating were abducted and two of them were raped. but today in court when the judge asked aaron thomas how he pleaded for the first rape charge, here's what he said. i don't know which is right or which is wrong. i don't know what i'm doing. the commonwealth's attorney says he wasn't surprised that aaron thomas did not plead guilty because of his previous erratic behavior. >> i certainly would not want him to plead guilty if he had any question about whether he should or not. if i'm not convinced that he's willing and -- ready, willing and able t
